The gift was announced with on-the-seat cards during the speaker’s sessions.• A fullflilment house inserts a speaker’s “Communicate Clearly” tips sheets on top of the informational updates that the fulfillment house mails out on behalf of their corporate clients in the fields of insurance, credit and healthcare. The tips are a welcome relief from the important, but highly technical reading below it.The speaker provides the camera-ready tips to the fulfillment house that offers them as an extra benefit to their corporate clients. Those clients pay for reproduction. Each sheet has a line at the top, “(name of company) supports your personal success.” • The largest beer producer in India introduced an upscale beer for women. Hanging from a gold cord around the neck of each bottle is a card entitled, “Live Well” that promotes a free 3” x 3” book of 100 lifestyle tips for women buyers. Buyers get the book from their store when they turn in ten bottle caps. The book is co-authored by an American woman speaker and a popular Indian woman journalist. These are examples of cross-promotions among speakers and people from different industries or professions. Like all successful cross-promotions, they are aimed at better reaching and/or serving a mutual market.Successful cross-promotions build customer-attracting visibility and value. Unsuccessful joint promotions can create irritation and lose credibility. Some speakers are avid cross-promoters. Several have written about partnering and joint promotions including Jeff Slutsky and Ed Rigsbee Manasquan Settled as a part of Shrewsbury in the late 1600's, Manasquan’s name derives from the Lenni Lenape Indians “Man - A - Squaw – Han” (stream of the Island of Squaws). For many centuries people have summered and lived year round in this small town which features shopping, a mile long beach and deep sea fishing. Of note is the Squan Village historical Society’s museum the Bailey-Reed House. Monmouth Beach Dating back to 1668, Monmouth Beach was first purchased by Eliakim Wardell. In 1842, Wardell’s great grandson Henry sold one of the lots to the U.S. Life Saving Service and in 1865 sold the rest to Arthur V. Conover. Mr. Conover and other investors founded the Monmouth Beach Association in 1871. Oceanfront homes were built and the community began to thrive. Many of the original 19th century Victorian homes still exist alongside new contemporary properties making Monmouth Beach an idyllic seaside resort. Neptune Township Incorporated in October of 1881, Neptune was named after the Roman God of the Sea. During the last decade, Neptune has significantly grown residentially, commercially and in technological advances. A prestigious addition has been the Jersey Shore Medical Center which is an affiliate of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Township highlights include the Jumping Brook Golf Course, great restaurants, Shark River Park (in Shark River Hills) which features a walking trail, barbeque areas and picnic tables, and the historic town of Ocean Grove. The celebrities Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito spent their childhood years as friends in Neptune. Ocean Grove Incorporated in 1869, Ocean Grove is a National Historical District. Founded by Bishop Francis Asbury, Ocean Grove (a sister to Cape May) has the largest number of Victorian homes in the nation and today maintains Methodist traditions. The Great Auditorium was built in 1875 and still is host to Sunday worship services and ma Bank Caught with Corporate Hands in Customer Pockets - Again Whether you are considering a permanent move to the Jersey shore, renting for the summer, or just planning a short getaway, there is a perfect community for you and your family. Each of the following locations has a unique blend of history and modern flavor that attracts tourists and new residents alike.I always thought it excessive to be fined ?35 (GBP) every time I go over drawn at my bank or forget to pay my credit card bill. I mean, exactly how much does it cost to send me a reminder letter? Well it seems that we have an answer to this question and maybe the beginning of the end of massive overcharging by high street banks. In an investigation into bank charges and credit card fees levied by banks, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) announced in April 2006 that current bank charges and credit card fees are unfair and probably unlawful. This announcement has led to thousands of people demanding that their banks pay back bank charges dating back over the last 6 years. This applies to personal accounts and business accounts. The UK Office of Fair Trading has determined that anything over ?12 is deemed unfair. If this is the case I know one or two people who will probably be due around a ?1000 in refunds from a combination of banks, credit card companies and mortgage houses. Of course the banks have always known that they were skating on very thin legal ice with their charges. The Unfair (Contracts) Terms Act of 1977 and the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 are designed to protect consumers. This Legislation specifies that in order for a charge to be lawful it must represent the actual financial loss sustained by your bank. Hence the OFT stating that anything above ?12 is unfair. It does not seem to matter that the terms and conditions that you signed up to when you join your bank are in the form of a contract. A contract that has illegal clauses in it is not a valid contract. So far most claims made for the return of bank charges have been successful. Resulting in large refunds for many thousands of people. You can also claim all your charges plus 8% interest per annum going back six years which can add up to quite a lot of money. Interestingly the Allenhurst The Allen family farm was purchased in 1895 and the .028 square mile land area of “Allenhurst” was formed. Allenhurst has become one of the wealthier towns on the New Jersey Shore. The large Victorian and Tudor-Style homes, as well as the small-town feel of the neighborhood today make Allenhurst a desirable place to live and to visit. The picturesque town has small shops, an award-winning bakery and fine restaurants while a nearby lake offers fishing and canoeing. A popular place in Allenhurst is The Beach Club. Situated at the end of Corlies Road, the beautiful club has pools and a restaurant open during the summer. Asbury Park Beginning as a vibrant New Jersey shore resort community in 1870, Asbury Park has set trends and produced cultural icons throughout the 20th century. Legendary Asbury Park has played a significant role in people’s memories of summer fun and the very best of what a tightly knit creative community can be. Because Asbury Park is historically charismatic and culturally appealing, the current renaissance is a logical continuation of a century of challenges, revival and growth. In Asbury Park’s downtown and new boardwalk, the pulse of activity is visible with many new restaurants, galleries and shops. Old buildings being reclaimed, renovated and restored are attracting homebuyers and investors from across the nation. Come to visit our beloved “City by the Sea”. Atlantic Highlands The Atlantic Highlands overlooks where the Atlantic Ocean meets Raritan Bay at Sandy Hook. The Atlantic Highland’s hills mark the highest point on the eastern seaboard of the United States between Maine and Florida. Historically the Atlantic Highlands was a meeting point: in 1609 the Lenape Indians first met the explorer Henry Hudson; Colonists convened the first Assembly of New Jersey in 1667 and in the late 1700s a popular Victorian resort thrived in what is today an active bayside village and marina with many fine restaurants. Avon-by-the-Sea Incorporated as "Avon-by-the-Sea" on March 23, 1900, this lovely seaside town is a great place to swim & relax in the summer sun. Plenty of fine restaurants, shops, Victorian homes and a beautiful boardwalk and beach make Avon one of New Jersey's most relaxing spots. Don’t miss the famous Macaroon Shop on Main Street. Belmar Originally named “Ocean Beach”, Belmar was founded in 1872. In 1889, the town was re-named Belmar, which is French for “Beautiful Sea”. Today Belmar is one of the most active towns on the Jersey Shore as it attracts many families and singles during the summer. A mid-summer Professional Volleyball Tournament on July 8th through the 10th adds to the appeal of this summer destination spot. Bradley Beach Founded in 1893, Bradley Beach is an oceanside playground with many choices of recreational activities including: a boardwalk and lovely beach, miniature golf, summer concerts and dances. This small town has an unusually large number of diverse restaurants and clubs. Brielle Present day Brielle was founded in 1664 and in the late 1800s Brielle started to become a summer resort when cottages and hotels were built along the Manasquan River. In 1881 a group of investors formed the Brielle Land Association. Having no oceanfront, Brielle is well known for many recreational opportunities including fishing, a nationally renowned golf course and its’ marinas which host many commercial and charter fishing boats. Deal First settled in 1664 the town comprised only 1.2 square miles. With almost no commercial property, Deal is renowned for its beautiful mansions and splendid beaches. Eatontown Slightly under 6 square miles, with a population of about 14,000 people, Eatontown is one of the largest towns on the Jersey Shore. It’s long and intricate history began in 1670 when Thomas Eaton, a Quaker, came from Shrewsbury to develop this new land . In 1873 the New Jersey State Legislature made the name of Eatontown official. Because of its central location, Eatontown became a camp and communications center during the war. The camp was renamed after Alfred Vail in honor of the New Jersey inventor who helped develop the Morse telegraph. Many innovations were developed at what is now known as Fort Monmouth including aircraft radar detection and walkie talkies. Old Indian trails are a crossroads for modern travel and the Monmouth Mall, built in 1959 on a former farm, is the center of town. The war made it necessary to train large numbers of telegraphers and other communications personnel. Interlaken Founded in 1888, Interlaken was originally a 364-acre farm. In 1890, the Interlaken Land Development Company was created and plans for a residential community began. Throughout its history, Interlaken remains what it still is today - a quiet residential community of approximately 400 families. Many of the present homes were built in the early to mid 1900s by artists, painters, sculptors and writers who found the idyllic community, between the lakes, to be the perfect setting for their creative spirits. Surrounded by Deal Lake, within walking distance to the beaches, local shopping and transportation, Interlaken remains an idyllic residential community. Lake Como First settled in 1693, the borough of Lake Como, just south of Belmar, was formally established in 1924. One of the first settlers was Jeremiah Newman who began his life as a farmer. When people started flocking to the seaside town Jeremiah began selling off parcels of his farm for $1 an acre. Today Lake Como has a thriving beachfront which offers a boardwalk, shops, boating and many restaurants. Little Silver It is said that Little Silver got its name after a village in Devonshire England. Settled in 1667, early residents were farmers, fishermen and merchants. Separating from Shrewsbury in 1923, Little Silver today is a residential community that features river boating, public tennis courts, beautiful parks and the Post Office Museum. A historic site is The Parker House which is over 350 years old. Loch Arbour Village Lined with majestic trees and beautiful Victorian homes, Loch Arbour is the only village, and smallest town, in Monmouth County. Spanning only two blocks wide and five blocks long, Thomas White purchased the land in 1820 from Jacob Corlies. Loch Arbour was incorporated in 1957 and was previously part of Ocean Township. Bordered by Deal Lake and Allenhurst, Loch Arbour’s name comes from “Loch” meaning “Lake” and “Arbour” meaning “Trees”. Within walking distance of the beach, shops and restaurants, Loch Arbour empitomizes a quaint seaside village Long Branch One of the largest cities on the Jersey Shore, Long Branch was very glamorous in its early days as it attracted many wealthy New Yorkers, as well as more notorious adventurers like Diamond Jim Brady and Lily Langtree. Presidents Grant, Hayes, Harrison, McKinley, Wilson and Garfield all summered in Long Branch. During the 1920s, Long Branch declined in its popularity due to gambling laws restricting this popular past time. Currently Long Branch is experiencing a revival which can be seen along the waterfront with many new buildings being constructed, many restaurants and an active nightlife. Every year thousands upon thousands of churches and youth groups dive into the world of running a church fund raising campaign. The truth is, most of them mean well, but they are simply not qualified to do so. They could be much more prepared by following a few simple rules. This article is designed for those brave soles that have been placed in charge of raising money for their church, but really have no clue what to do next.Church Fund Raising 101Before you get too worried about how, what or where you will get your church fund raising funds you need to sit down and create a fund raising plan. The first item on your fundraising plan should be to create a theme that matches the cause. By that, I mean you should try to create a theme that will fit well with the reason you need to raise money in the first place.Once you have a good theme for your church fund raising project then you must find the right people to carry out each responsibility. Too often most churches assign someone to each committee without even asking or seeing if someone else might be better qualified for the duty. You could conduct some simple personality test to see who has what skill sets. You should be able to find these types of test online or at your local book store. You may also check at the local library. You will probably have some ideas about certain people, but you may be surprised to discover the hidden talents of many others.Once you have set a theme and gathered the proper information on all your volunteers you can then plan a very successful church fund raising campaign. The only problem is that you may look like a hero and be asked to participate in many more church fund rais Avon-by-the-Sea Incorporated as "Avon-by-the-Sea" on March 23, 1900, this lovely seaside town is a great place to swim & relax in the summer sun. The face to face meeting opportunity with customers can provide some excellent results…provided you have a good communication strategy in place. Keep in mind that there are at least a hundred other advertisers at the same trade show vying for the attention of the consumer, you have a small window to make an impression on the persons mind. Here are some tried and tested strategies to implement to maximize your on-the-floor communication:Be crisp: Don’t make the mistake of beating around the bush while communicating at the trade show either verbally or visually. No one has the time to listen to a sales person rambling on (and if someone does listen to long sermons at tradeshows, he probably has no where else to go to). You need put across your message selling the product or service in hand in a direct manner. Your booth display should have the message in readable format with meaningful graphics. Meaningless graphics are the biggest turn-offs for the trade show veteran. For example, use graphics and text on the display which communicates directly about your products and services. Avoid using generic graphics. If you are not sure of what to put there, take professional help. It is also advised that you get display design done by professional agencies rather than in-house team. This may be a bit more expensive, but if you get a re-usable variety, the costs are going to be well justified.Know the demographics: Most trade show organizers give information about last year’s demographics of visitors. These inputs can form an important ingredient in your communication strategy as you get to know the visitors before they visit your booth and prepare your pitch accordingly. Sometimes, it might also be a good idea to break the tradition and have a strategy which might not be so obvious.
