    As I sat down the other day to write a review, my cursor winking at me from my monitor, I closed my eyes and waited. I waited to feel something about the book. Did I love it? Did I hate it? Did it make me mad, sad, righteous, nauseous? Nothing came...and as I sat there, I realized that the book was just okay. It wasn't great. It wasn't horrible. Sure, it had entertained me mildly, but if someone asked me about it, I would have just shrugged.

    I was disappointed to find that I just didn't have a review of Hush in me. Sure, I could have thrown a couple hundred words on the page, but would it have been a good review? No -- probably not.

    Reviewing is great, but only if you have a view to share. Certain experiences are bound to send you scrambling for pen and paper, ready to share your heinous experience with a product or company with anyone who will listen. The thought of keeping someone else from wasting their hard-earned money on an unworthy product makes me want to jump up and down with delight. On the flip side, it's been a delight to be able to tell the world much I love my Toyota RAV4, and how Julia Cameron's The Right to Write got me writing again after a long time away from my word processor.

    The internet has made it easier and easier to share our own personal views on products, movies, books, etc., just as it has helped many people to make informed decisions on products that they're considering for purchase.     The bottom line is that you're not going to help anyone make an informed decision if you don't really care much about the product one way or another. And there's nothing wrong with that. There are a lot of things that will evoke strong reactions in each of us, and there are a lot of things that will just make each of us shrug with indifference.

    So please, be passionate. Write what you love...and by all means write what you hate. Just don't write about what you are indifferent about...unless, of course, that very indifference makes you mad, sad, anxious, righteous, or just downright sick.
