    Get Focused, Get Results
Last night my wife was helping my 12 year old learn some new things when my daughter and I walked in playing and giggling. Once we stopped in respect for them, I noticed he was having trouble concentrating because the television was on. After I suggested he turn it off, they made great progress very quickly. We all have done it, whether we are parents or not. We’ve encouraged someone to remove a distraction so they could focus on the task, conversation or subject at hand.If you wear corrective lenses of any kind and go for your annual vision check, you know what it is like when your new prescription is applied. You see more clearly with greater focus. Suddenly your mind doesn’t have to think about focusing, things already are without “working” at it.It is crystal clear to me that we all know how important focus (of all kinds) is, but many of us aren’t very good at it. (As a side note, I write this article because focus is something that I continually work on getting better at; it is my hope that the things I will share from my journey, will help you too.)This article will target three specific areas with specifics suggestions for practicing improved focus: planning, questioning and removing.PlanningDaily planning is critical. Many people have a “to-do” list, and while having one will help you be more focused than not having one, most people don’t use them to their maximum benefit. Too often the list degenerates into a list of the crises that MUST be handled today –

    Payroll Check Fraud Incident
Payroll check fraud came calling four days before Christmas. A branch of our main bank called and wanted to verify a check. The young lady who took the call in our office quickly realized that the check was out of sequence and for a person not on the client's payroll. The check was cut on our trust account. I spoke to the bank employee who had called us. They were stalling the person by having then fill out an account application, more about that later. I took the location of the bank and called the local police department. Of course I didn't have the right exact city and had to make an additional call. The police finally were dispatched to the grocery store where the branch bank was. The woman trying to cash the check was gone. But the police were fairly sure that they would apprehend her soon. Next day she tried to pass a check on someone else at a different bank. The police were called and she was arrested and turned over on a filed warrant to the police I had called. They had issued a warrant the same day she cashed a check on us and had given the bank as part of the paperwork a copy of her real drivers license. No one ever claimed crooks were smart. She had cashed eight checks on our account for about eight thousand dollars total. Checks under a thousand dollars are easier to cash.We have a very sophisticated check with all kinds of safeguards against fraud. Special paper, void pantographs, MICR lock, warning legends, artificial watermarks, colored paper and more. So what
This is the story of a silly farmer. Actually, this person is not a "real" farmer yet, but wants to be one. You may have met someone like this farmer, or you may even be this future farmer. To protect the innocent, we will call our farmer-to-be, "Pat".

Pat is a regular person, just like you, or I. One day, like many, Pat decides to start a business. Now this would be Pat’s very first business, and Pat did not exactly grow up with a silver spoon in the mouth, if you know what I mean.

Pat decides to tell everyone in town all about the new business soon to be started.

Pat tells friends, family and even other existing farmers to get ready, because this is going to be HUGE.

Pat has come up with an idea that will revolutionize the farming industry and is SURE everyone will want to buy the new produce. Pat is actually bewildered why no one has thought of this or attempted this before as it will make MILLIONS and is yet, so obvious.

Pat has saved as much money as possible, but only is able to come up with a very small amount. The amount Pat has, is a lot less than one would normally expect to pay to start a farm, but that does not stop Pat from being self-confident. Thinking positively, (and being proactive and not letting "negative people" dampen spirits), Pat decides to take all the money available and use as down payment buy a plot of land anyway.

After buying the land, Pat has enough money to buy only one packet of seeds and one shovel from the general store. Mind you Pat is venturing into the Farming Industry for the very first time, so with the exception of outside observance, Pat doesn't have much inside knowlege.

There's No Place Like Home To Start A Women Owned Business
Women are taking control of their financial destinies and careers by starting and running their own business. Women owned business opportunities are often of the work-at-home type due to several reasons. When you work from home, there is usually little start-up costs involved in getting your business going. You already have a living accommodation that can double as your office, so you save from paying office rental. There's the freedom to set your own work schedule. No more having a boss telling you what, when and how to do your work. You don't need to travel in bad weather or being stucked in a traffic jam.You don't have to pay childcare costs or travel expenses such as gas and automobile maintenance. Many women in business are deciding to work from home so that they can spend more time with their children and family.Potential SetbacksDue to the fact that you have the flexibility to set your own schedule, it can be very tempting not follow it at times. You may become distracted and lose track of time. This will put you behind in your work and set the stage for stress and aggravation. Other distractions, such as the television, radio or telephone can interfere with your ability to maintain a schedule and get your work completed on time. There may be household distractions such as the dishes that need to be washed or the floor that needs to be mopped and this is why it is important to prioritize. You can be distracted by friends dropping by unannounced to hang out bec

Make Money In Japan - Build Your Own School
Live in Japan and ever dreamed of having your own company? Rather than working for the big chain schools and making them rich, why not work on your own financial future and start your own private English school. It's easier than you think. But there are so many schools out there, it's too crowded and it's too difficult to get new students, you may say.Whilst Japan might not have the immediate growth potential of China, Korea or even language teaching in US, and there is so much more competition, it is still a hugely positive and as yet still untapped market. For example:* Kids Lessons: With the recent comments from the Education Minister, compulsory English in Elementary School has been delayed for a least a year, probably two and maybe longer if the current Prime Minister stays in power. This has taken away a huge, free, competitor.* Adults Classes: Every time I sit in a coffee shop I can almost guarantee that the conversation of at least one group around me will turn to "I'd like to speak English", and invariably ends with "But it's so scary approaching a school". These are usually women in their 20s or 30s who don't have to, but would like to learn English in a casual, relaxed way. Where are the easy-to-walk-in-to-for-just-a-chat-about-joining schools?* Silver Eikaiwa: There's a huge market of "silver" (the Japanese word of the moment!) retirees with cash to spend and a thirst for travel. How many silver courses are there out there? For the actual mechanics of se

Three Steps to Your Own Import Export Business
In this article I'd like to talk about the first three steps I believe are vital in starting up your own import-export business. The first and most important step is to determine your interests. It goes without saying that the most successful businesses are those where it ceases to be considered work for the owner. We've all heard stories of people who started out very small and grew their business into million dollar enterprises. It wasn't just luck or coincidence. They were involved with something they truly enjoyed doing and worked hard at it.Choose something you are passionate about and you would pay to do. What things do you already pay for? What things are you already passionate about? Now, not every interest can be turned into a business that pays the bills, but it may lead you to another area that can. The key here is to remain open and just think of any interest you have - not matter how outlandish.I really can't stress the importance of this enough. Go with what you're interested in. How can you expect others to be passionate about your products, if they aren't exciting to you?If wicker baskets don't excite you, then don't try to sell them. Find what does excite you and sell that. This is also going to he helpful if things get tough. In many cases when things get tough, people give up, but if you choose something you are passionate about, then you are less likely to follow the same path. The most famous example of being passionate is Colonel San

8 Free Advertising Ideas For Weird Ads
In the wake of CBS placing advertisements on eggs (yes, it's true, CBS is placing ads on actual egg shells), I've decided to come up with a compilation of ideas for places to put a company advertisement.Eggs are the last place that you would expect to see an advertisement. That's why, if you were to see an ad on an egg, you would stop to take notice. Advertising can work if people stop to take notice, especially if it's really weird and garners free publicity (like the body part advertising on eBay a little while ago). So, putting a business ad on an unexpected place can do wonders. With that said, I've compiled a list of 20 free advertising ideas for weird places that you can place your company ad. To my knowledge, none of these have yet been done: On top of coffee lids – You don't expect to see a marketing message staring up at you when taking that morning sip of coffee. On a competitor's product - This may be difficult to do but if you and a competitor advertise on each other's products it would even out. This may attract free publicity, as well. Inside the pages of books - Magazines have pages of ads, so why not books? There could be a special advertising section in books. This could provide very targeted advertising. Straws - I've yet to see an ad on a McDonalds straw that I drink my Coca-Cola with. Songs - We’ve seen product placement in movies and TV shows like Donald Trump’s The Apprentice, but I’ve

However, Pat DOES have a great idea, and feels that is more than enough, I mean after all, each of the greats like Edison, Einstien, Gates and Bezos all started with just an idea...didn't they?

Pat is ready to start, but is now getting a little concerned. Pat realizes one packet of seed and a shovel is really not enough to get this idea going. Pat does NOT have money to get anything else, but has already invested everything. Plus its a super-cool idea, and it would be a shame to not bring it to fruition, people NEED THIS...ultimately Pat's program could END WORLD HUNGER....if only Pat could get it off the ground.

Pat begins asking people if they want to "invest". Pat finds that there are 2 kinds of people.

The first are people who are NOT investment savvy. They agree Pat has its a great idea but only have a few hundred dollars or so to give...they also bring nothing to the table as far as experience, connections or resources. Pat is rarely asked many questions by these inexperienced "investors", and definitely never any challenging ones. These people are willing to work out any terms that sound reasonable, especially since Pat is "guaranteeing" this is going to be a hit.

These are people just like Pat. They work a day job and think the "idea" is great and "know" it will be the next big thing and want to be a part of it. Unfortunately for Pat, a few hundred dollars will not even begin to touch what Pat knows is needed to launch.
