    Financial Freedom Has Its Price
"There is no success without hardship." SophoclesFor those of you that are starting (or thinking about) a home-based-business, there are some basic truths that you're not going to hear from the people that are trying to recruit you for THEIR program.First, you will have to make some sacrifices. You will have to devote time, energy, and even money to get any business off the ground. So many recruiters will tell you "anyone can do it" - and they're right. The problem is that so many "opportunities" are misrepresented that the fallout rate is enormous. You will have to give up some of your precious time to build any business. That means less

How To Know If The Interior Design Business Is Right For You
Have you ever seen a beautiful house or office building and wondered who did the work? Have you ever wished that you could do some of the work that you've seen elsewhere? Many people wonder what it would be like to be an Interior Designer, but they rarely ever go beyond thinking about it.An interior Designer is a consultant. You are there to beautify any particular environment as well as provide your clients with the service of explaining why you are recommending, and doing the things that your project will require. You must educate your client about interior design as well as design. You have obviously given the idea of being an Interior Design
Interested in starting your own alpaca ranch? You are not alone. The alpaca industry has been thriving since the early 1980’s, so there is no need to reinvent the wheel. One of the best things going for the alpaca industry is the alpaca rancher. I have never met a group so friendly and willing to pass on their knowledge to all the newbies joining. In keeping the knowledge flowing I share with you 10 steps to make your startup easier:
    1. Attend Alpaca University or Seminars: There are numerous ranches that offer education on alpacas. There are classes on how to purchase quality alpacas, maintaining your alpacas, neonatal and birthing classes, through how to set up your own ranch store. These classes are very informative and give you a taste of what is needed before you make your first purchase. The classes run on average $150 each. It is well worth the investment since it will save you from making costly mistakes. Simply go to the Alpaca Nation or AOBA website for the list of classes being held nationwide.

Franchisor Website Rules and Media Regulations
Recently a Federal Trade Commission Report on Franchising has been looking into what should be allowed on Franchisor websites, as some information could be considered advertising for franchise buyers. Most websites of businesses in the franchising industry are set up to sell and give information to consumers of the end product; Submarine Sandwiches, haircuts, hotel rooms and things of this nature. This has been one of my major complaints in franchising. States like CA dictate what we can say on our website if we wish to sell franchises there. We have 13,000 pages online on all of our websites, the Department of Corporations in CA had once asked us to

Six Sigma Requires a Substantial Commitment from “Informal” Leaders
An awful lot has been said lately about Six Sigma and its abilities to bring out the full potential in any business or organization. However, the aspect – other than money – that most frequently causes a company to stop in its tracks when confronted with the option of taking on a Six Sigma strategy is the fact that it requires such a substantial leadership commitment. This being said, leadership doesn’t just mean the people at the top of the company hierarchy. Leadership commitment in this sense is required by all leaders in the business, whether they be presidents, CEO’s, team leaders, or “informal” leaders. In fact, it is these informal leade

Is Your Yellow Page Rep Working for You?
The real question would be, how are they actually paid? But let’s start at the beginning. Assuming you are the archetype small, family-run business, that is the typical Yellow Page advertiser, you probably have a YP rep that sees you every year. Or perhaps you are a moderate spender that only warrants a telephone call instead. Either way, you will be contacted by the rep and should be aware of some basic truths. What qualifies me to give them to you, you may ask? Because I was a YP rep for 25 years, owned my own advertising agency prior to that and have a degree in marketing. So, with those credentials, let’s look at the rep. On every call they should be pro

        Your Eye Catching Publicity Flyer
Your website is done, your business cards have been delivered, and your brochure has received accolades. In the promoting department you have everything you need, right? Well, there is one item you lack and by having this item in your arsenal it can be a dealmaker for you. When I pitch my services to potential clients I always have on hand copious amounts of business cards. I drop them almost everywhere. I want people to look at my cards and then get online to view my website. So far, so good. However, besides a brochure there is one item I have learned to use -- and modify -- as needed. This item is a promotional flyer. That's right, a simple 8.5 x 11

      5. Visit Ranches: Visiting ranches is not only a great way to make friends and connections, but you can take away with you ideas on how to setup your own ranch. You really need to think before hand how your layout will be. Did you leave room for expansion? How will the alpacas get from the stalls to the pasture? This is a great time to ask the rancher if they had to do it all over again what would they change and why? You can gain a lot of insight with this question.
      6. Fencing: Alpacas require fencing. It is not so much as to keep the herd in, but to keep predators such as coyotes, mountain lions, bears, etc out. It is a good idea to speak with your county extension agent to learn which predators are in your area, so you can choose the appropriate fencing. Remember that dogs are the #1 killer of alpacas in the United States.
      7. Shelter: Alpacas need shelter from the elements. 3-sided shelters will provide them shade from the sun and will act as a windbreaker in the winter. Depending on your budget you can decide just how extravagant you want your shelter to be. Please check with your local zoning. There may be a limit as to how many alpacas you can have on your property.
