Email Marketing: What is Your List Really there For?
Have you ever been on a person's mailing list who repeatedly sends you the same offer over and over again? This is the fastest way to lose subscribers. You should make your messages useful and provide your readers with something educational to read. Sure every now and then you are going to want to remind them about the product you are selling, and that is normal.I just un-subscribed from a list that started out great with lots of good information, but soon the well ran dry and I was getting two sales letters a day. This brings up a debate. Most marketers will say that the list is there for the purpose of presenting offers and trying to make money from sales. Some marketers will assault their list while others subtly coax them into buying.I prefer the second method because I personally would rather buy from someone who is honest and not a money hungry annoyance. Sure you may make some money with all of those sales letters, but the rest of your list is going to head for the hills. The most successful approach would be to regularly send a product reminder along with some helpful information. Make your subscribers know that your product is worth the money because your free information is of high quality. Be sure not to skimp on the quality of your free material because this is what your readers will be judging you with.Use common sense when mailing your list offers. Think about what you would or would not want to see in your mailbox if you were a subscriber. Remember your list will come back and buy time and time again as long as it is still there.

Stuck In the Google Sandbox? The Sandbox Solution
What is the Google Sandbox? It’s the mysterious, possibly non-existent web purgatory where millions of sites languish without rankings, visibility, or traffic. How Do You Know if You’re Stuck in the Sandbox? Here’s a rough set of criteria for you.Your site is indexed and appears with the proper title, snippet, and url (www, or no www whichever you picked) – type site:www.yoursite.com into Google to check this. Your site has PageRank (use the google toolbar, or nichebot.com to find this) It is regularly crawled, and the cache dates are newer than 10 days On your keyword, you rank in the top 20 for allinanchor, allintext, and allintitle. To check this, type, e.g. allinanchor: and see if you’re in the top 20. You do not rank within the first 1000 places for the keyword the site was designed forDoes the Sandbox Really Exist, or is it Just the Google Algorithm? This is a big controversy. Everyone has a different opinions.Don’t listen to guys who handle bluechip companies - they optimize older, high PR sites. It’s your everyday mainly-new-sites webmaster who knows this problem intimately. In fact, all the big sites need to do is place the keyword in the title and they're on the first page. This gives them an unfair advantage not unlike what the “media elite” has enjoyed for decades.Regardless of whether the sandbox is a separate phenomenon from the algorithm, the degree of prejudice against new sites has hurt quality of Google’s search results. This is especially true with products and topics both new and urgent. The bigger sites may not be covering it, but searchers end up there without high quality answers. The common wisdom now is that if you’re looking for new websites, go to MSN or Yahoo instead. Neither of these sites is using this kind of filter. Many websites rank in the top 10 (for their targeted keywords) on these two search engines, yet are nowhere to be found in Google. Why Would Google Do This?Google frowns upon SEOs who try to overly influence ranking, so they needed to find a way around SEO factors to deliver quality results. So they’d look for signs of SEO in websites, e.g. how consistent the addition of backlinks is, and how repetitive (vs. natural) the anchor text of backlinks is, and they consider the age of the site and its backlinks.Redesign PenaltiesSimilarly, websites that have made the mistake of too comprehensively redesigning their look, content, or navigation have been shocked to find that they get penalized for this updating. Google seems to prefer a “frozen in time” or “moving like molasses” kind of internet. But to be fair, this is something that had to be i

    - Arabian proverb

“How do you find a lion that has swallowed you?” asked Swiss psychologist, Carl Jung, commenting on the moral dilemma posed by the “shadow,” his insightful term for the dark, hidden side of the human psyche.

The answer to Jung’s questions is “you can’t find or see that lion”—not as long as you are inside the beast. And therein resides the essential dilemma of a group’s dark side or shadow: it is nearly impossible for those caught inside a group’s belief system to see their own dark side with any clarity or objectivity. This hidden side grows over time, regressing, becoming more and more aggressive. It’s the “long bag we drag behind us,” says poet Robert Bly—where, as individuals, we dispose of all those things that are too uncomfortable to look at. “The long-repressed shadow of Dr. Jekyll rises up in the shape of Mr. Hyde, deformed, an ape-like figure glimpsed against the alley wall.” Now imagine millions of Mr. Hydes and you have a sense of the group shadow of fundamentalist, right wing extremists dressed up as “compassionate conservatives,” led by George W. Bush. It’s like shifting from a hand gun to a nuclear bomb. And it began long ago in both the Moslem and Christian worlds. The invasion of American Democratic institutions by fundamentalist, historically militant (as in crusades, witch hunts, inquisitions, and support of slavery) Christianity has significantly increased the stench coming from the already disturbing dark side of U.S. politics. It’s like a nightmarish replay of the Christian crusades—politics with a militant, convert-the-heathens dark side. Potent, cult-like group dynamics combine with unacknowledged and unseen shadow qualities to easily overwhelm the individual’s sense of right and wrong, often unleashing pure evil en masse.

As the political world and the media divided the U.S. into red and blue states, I found myself feeling uncomfortable even thinking about driving through one of those “red” states. I would imagine that every red-state person must be a card-carrying, right wing fundamentalist. From the other side of the mountain, those “blue” states are full of liberal, soft-on-terrorism, big government socialists. Both are examples of projecting our group’s shadow onto the “enemy.” And both views prevent us from “seeing” individual human beings. We see only that group, those people. With remarkable ease, we slide into a “programmed,” either-or, group-think: we’re the good guys, they’re the bad guys. It’s like seeing everything through red or blue-tinted glasses that color all we see and think—we’ve been “swallowed.”

Photo Shop Tutorial for Beginners - 6 Tips for Getting Started
Photo Shop is one of the most amazing and yet complicated software programs out in the market right now, but don’t worry…you’ll only have to suffer its complicatedness at the start. After a while, you’ll soon get the hang of Photo Shop and then you’ll be editing your photos like mad!Tip #1 Choosing the Type of Image File Whenever you edit a photo in a major way, the default settings of Photo Shop would usually ask you to save the file in psd format; be that as it may, it’s better for you to save your photos in jpeg as this is the most commonly accepted file and allows you to upload photos easily on just about any website.Tip #2 Images without Background Let’s say you wish to create a particular shape or text or you’ve cut out a particular figure and you wish to use it on a website or even any design without white background. This is impossible to do with MS Paint, but certainly easy to achieve with Adobe Photo Shop.First, set the background to transparent. Next, paste or create the desired text, shape, or photo. Once you’re done, you have to click on Save for Web and not simply Save As because the latter would cause your photo to lose its transparent background.Tip #3 Understanding Contrast You see this term being used a lot when describing art or even when discussing about adjustment levels of a plasma TV. But do you really understand what contrast is? To put thing simply, contrast is the ability of a certain object, in this case that would be Photo Shop, to display the contrast or difference between dark and light colors or the difference between black and white. In a monochromatic photo, contrast is especially important because it makes distinguishing various objects in the photo easier. In colored photos, contrast is important when the photo has a particularly dark background.Tip #4 Choosing the Quality Level When you use Photo Shop to edit a photo, you might be asked in the end to choose the level of quality for your photo before saving it. The ideal level to choose is 60 because it allows you to enjoy superior quality while reducing the file size of your photo. Anything more can be particularly heavy and consume much disk space while the anything less can compromise the appearance of your photo.Tip #5 Going Retro To make your photos black and white, simply go to the Image Toolbar then click grayscale and your photos would immediately look decades older.Tip #6 Layers This feature of Adobe Photo Shop never fails to intimidate most beginners, but you shouldn’t let it scare you. Once you understand how layers work, you’ll be virtually addicted to using it frequently to enhance your photos.Layers basically let you know the different layers that y

Website Content Review; Writing Copy is Not Easy
For those in the business of writing copy for advertisements, websites or public relations pieces whether they are for commercial, non-profit or government agencies they know it is not easy. It is an art and a science and all of that and more all wrapped into one. Writing copy for online or offline media is difficult and it is essential that you understand your audience to make sure that you are conveying your message correctly.Often small business owners make small mistakes in their promotional and advertising material and forget who they are talking to. Generally they go on and on about this or that without getting into the head of their potential clientele or current customers. When they fail to make contact they do themselves a complete disservice. Now a days building a website and putting your business online is easy, but are you doing it correctly? Sure there are many website building companies in every city and hundreds of web hosting companies, but more importantly is how is your website observed by your future customers? I recommend a website content review for all small businesses. It is worth spending a couple hundred dollars to have this done and a few hundred more to fix it. There are many companies, which can do this and you should look for one, which specializes in the following things web content creation, editing and copy writing. I recommend WordFeeder.com and there are other companies as well with some of the same skills to a lesser degree I suppose? One great thing about the Internet is you can pick a company, which is anywhere because they can review you site and make modification from where ever they are. Think on this.

5 Reasons Why You Should Eliminate Credit Card Debt
    1. Credit card companies can change almost all of the terms of the credit card by giving just 15 days notice. We get used to credit card companies adjusting their lending rate by 1/4% as interest rates fluctuate but did you know they can alter any of the terms for any reason. For example they can increase the late payment fee and they can increase the interest rate without the need to justify it. If you are late or miss just one payment the low rate you are currently being charged can double or even treble almost overnight.2. Credit card companies can increase the cost of a purchase months after you bought it.If you purchased a wide-screen plasma TV 3 months ago, using a card which at the time was costing 9.9% apr, and you are late with just one payment, the credit card company can charge you a late payment fee, say $40, and increase the interest rate to 29.9% apr, or even more, and there is nothing you can do about it.They can, in effect, increase the cost of your TV months, or possibly even years after you purchased it. The TV retailer wouldn't be allowed to do this but your credit card company can.3. Discount offers are only good if you keep up all your payments.Interest free balance transfers and initial periods can disappear for any minor omission. Failure to keep to all the terms of a card will result in special terms being withdrawn and possible penalty interest being applied. If you have interest free purchases and balance transfers make sure you keep up the payments.4. It's not just your card payments you have to keep up.If you miss a payment on your mortgage, or your car or any other financial payment, your credit card companies can re-assess your credit score and increase your interest rate accordingly. If you therefore miss a loan payment on your boat or car, but still pay the payments due on your cards, you can find that your credit card interest charges jump to 2 or 3 times the original rate.5. Credit card companies are today making record profits from you.If you don't pay your cards in full each month credit card companies make the majority of their profits from you and a substantial portion of that is in the additional charges they levy.It makes little or no sense to keep money in the bank earning 5% maximum and pay 29.9% or 19.9% or even 9.9% on your cards. Pay off the card and use the card for emergencies rather than the savings. Without the card payments you will be able to rapidly replace the savings.Without your knowing credit card companies can hold you hostage at the very time you may really need financial assistance. Don't allow credit card companies the continuing opportunity to make record profits at your expense, and at the same time the opp

If You Can't Measure It You Will Never Manage It!
Most weeks I have little or no difficulty in thinking what to write. This week was difficult, I was blank. Then along came web site statistics. You may think I'm a little strange but I bet your mind works in funny ways too.I was absentmindedly looking at my web site statistics when the thought from my consultant days struck. 'If you can't measure it you can't manage it'. I used to rely on this adage time and again because a common weakness in many businesses is they don't know what they are facing. The managers, owners will regale you at length with all of the perceived difficulties of managing their business and how nothing is their fault. It's usually the Bank Manager demanding certain reporting/notifications of the position facing the company. Or officialdom imposing contractual conditions, etc. Never is the owner manager at fault. We then start probing asking for monthly accounts and other data to be able to assess what is actually going on. Low and behold very often they don't have the basic data they need to run their business. If you can't measure it you can't manage it.What's this got to do with web site statistics? Well, my main site www.be-your-own-business-expert.com is built using SiteBuildIt! software from SiteSell.com. Dr Ken Evoy the man behind SiteBuildIt! is in my opinion a pretty shrewd character. He has created one of the best site build and hosting packages on the Internet. A complete package with a two tier affiliate marketing program and masses of free easy to use manuals, such as the affiliate masters course, a superb guide to help anyone interested in doing business online to get started. I'm coming to web site statistics.Part of the package is a facility to see how your site is performing, web site statistics. When I was casually looking for information I saw my page on How to Make Money Online has a click through rate of 13.73%. That's good. I also know from Overture/Pixelfast there were 39.3k searches in July for that term.My page on Cash Flow has a click through of 9.46% and there were 21.9k searches. I could go on but you don't want me to.However, Home Business Opportunity has a click through of 7.3% and was searched for 70.3k times in July. All of these web site statistics are helpful to me in understanding where interest is centred on my site. So; I can play to that interest, put pages which don't perform as well at lower priority and hopefully make more sales. Sensible business management derived from web site statistics. 'Measuring it and managing it!'Web site statistics are all part of managing an OnLine Business just as management reporting and associated data are a vital part of managing any other form of business because if you can't measure it you can't mana

Group shadow dynamics can shift the focus of our beliefs with stunning speed to another “evil” enemy. Petty dictators are convenient “hooks” on which groups often hang their collective shadow, their dirty laundry; a perfect example being Saddam Hussein who, in 1990-1991 magically transitioned from being a relatively obscure U.S. ally (receiving military aid, weapons, satellite intelligence, and high tech equipment) into an incarnation of evil and a dire threat to humanity that we had to eliminate. Such is the hypnotic power of group paranoia combined with propaganda in stirring up a nationalistic, lynch mob mentality. In 1986, an article about Don Rumsfeld in the Chicago Tribune listed helping “re-open U.S. relations with Iraq” as one of his career achievements when he served as Reagan’s special envoy to the Middle East. The State Department reported that while Rumsfeld was opening relations with Iraq, Saddam Hussein was murdering thousands of Kurds using chemical weapons.

Once a belief system gains control, those beliefs are much more likely to move us to action, propel us into roles and conduct we would never contemplate on our own. Voltaire warned, “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” Moreover, under the influence of any fundamentalist ideology, beliefs (often paranoid and delusional) tend to override facts—a very dangerous mental environment for making life and death decisions, or declaring war. Independent critical thinking and logic—qualities that are most threatening to any destructive group—expose absurdities. Consider this excerpt from a speech by the Nazi Party leader Rudolph Hess on June 30, 1934: “The National Socialism of all of us is anchored in uncritical loyalty…” (my italics). “What good fortune for those in power that people do not think,” observed Hitler, who knew that thinking citizens were a real danger to his political ambitions.

Ignorance of the group shadow and its destructive consequences locks us into a mutually destructive embrace with our “enemies.” In a perverse way each side needing the other—an ironic, group co-dependency on the others “evil” in order to perpetuate themselves. Thus the twisted rationale for a never-ending “War on Terror” that is the mirror image of the never-ending Islamic Jihad against the West. The president made this unending mission clear when he announced, “There’s no telling how many wars it will take to secure freedom in the homeland.” The notion of permanent war against a designated “evil” or “tyranny” is a classic dark side of Christian fundamentalism that mimics the Moslem worlds’ fundamentalist doctrine that declares non-Moslem countries as “Dar-al-Harb,” which means “The Home of War.” It’s no surprise to realize that George W’s fundamentalist dark side also echoes Islamic fundamentalism’s oft-stated goal of a global Moslem theocracy, which a prominent Iranian ayatollah made perfectly clear
