Service Without the Smile or Common Sense you imagine anything that demands on God more than that?"You would think experience, frequency of service, and the importance of repeat customers would create an expectation of quality. But you would be surprised if you thought that.Recently I met with a client for whom I have done a number of programs. We have a routine for our programs, and as always we maintained our routine. We meet at the same hotel. The starting time is not too early, but also not late enough to take away the participants’ entire day. Management provides donuts and bagels. The staff graciously shows up on a Saturday morning for sales and service training, without grumbling -- in fact, eager to be here. Says something about the quality of the staff! The CEO opens the meeting with favorable comments about the positive accomplishments the staff has performed since our last training session a few months back. And off we go to learn how to do it even better. We check our plans before the meeting starts, and everything is set, except … we have a podium mike (which I never have used) and no Powerpoint projector (which I have always used.) The hotel has broken its routine of always having the needed AV equipment. But we have plenty of time before we are to start the program, so I go see what can be done to get us back on track. The manager on duty says they don’t have a projector, and the company they rent them from is closed on Saturdays. Apparently the lady who took this room order is new (inadequately trained for the position the hotel expects her to perform) and didn’t make the right arrangements. But never fear, the banquet manager can take care of this issue, but he is on his way in and still an hour away. I tell the duty manager we can make do for an hour. The hour passes. Then another 30 minutes passes. At a break the CEO goes to inquire about the projector he ordered and which has never arrived. The banquet manager informs him there is not one on property, but he can call in th Man, I love ol' Ravenhill. I've observed that most Christians barely have the power the get up on Sunday morning or make it to a mid-week Bible Study. These days, one would be hard-pressed to find a Christian who could muster the faith to believe for the healing of their own sniffles. What my father didn’t know about communicating and relationships would fill volumes, but about hard work, he knew. And about turning that hard work into money, he knew.I saw my father buy cars and fix them up and sell them. He never chose an automobile that needed lots of work and I don’t think he did it that often, but if the opportunity came along . . . he was ready. He would tune it up and paint it if needed, but bodywork and major repairs were expensive, time consuming, and best left alone. He lived with his mistakes. In the fifties, he bought a Willy’s station wagon, the kind that was always painted maroon and gold. My dad painted it red and yellow. You could see it coming from blocks away. He drove that quite a while before he sold it.My father also looked for houses. I think he built our first home in Missouri where I was born. When we moved to Tacoma, we rented until we could afford to purchase. Once we moved in, he constantly painted and remodeled and improved. He then bought a house and fixed it up as a rental. The house was on a busy street, so he built a little storefront where he sold wooden toys. He didn’t really sell them. He rented the house to my aunt and uncle and my aunt would sell the toys for a reduction in the rent. When we moved, we traded up. Finally, we purchased my father’s dream: a motel.Over the years, I’ve bought my share of automobiles. I once had a little empire of rental houses. I struggle to keep a focus, but businesses branch out in different directions. It’s hard to explain to people what I really do, but I do it all the time. I think my children understand. My two sons buy the occasional car. My youngest son has constantly traded up in housing. My daughter creatively paints children’s furniture. With a focus on arts and crafts she sells her wares at tradeshows and craft shows. The family works hard and looks for ways to make money with our effort The Apostle Paul said, (Philippians 3:10), "That I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being made conformable unto His death...." Here's Paul, an old man by this time, still zealous for his faith in Christ as he ever was, maintaining that his #1 aspiration in life is this: "that I may know Him."1. Introduction - about GoogleUnless you are a web surfer in the true meaning of the concept, if you are reading this, I am almost certain that you know Google. Or, you think you know Google. You are probably aware that Google is a "search engine", that almost 80% of the internet searches in the world are done through Google. If you are a metro- or uber-geek, you probably know that the term "to google" became part of the English language, as in "she googled her high school boyfriends". And if you are really, really on top of things all trivia and have Wikipedia as your browser's home page, you might even know that the name "Google" is a play on the word "Googol", which was coined by Milton Sirotta, nine-year-old nephew of U.S. mathematician Edward Kasner in 1938, to refer to the number represented by 1 followed by one hundred zeros. But here's one piece of geek trivia that you might not know: The "Google" spelling is also used in "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams, in which one of Deep Thought's designers asks, "And are you not," said Fook, leaning anxiously forward, "a greater analyst than the Googleplex Star Thinker in the Seventh Galaxy of Light and Ingenuity which can calculate the trajectory of every single dust particle throughout a five-week Dangrabad Beta sand blizzard?"2. Everflux - what is that? Some obscure "Glossary of SEO terms" (SEO = Search Engine Optimization) defines the Everflux as "An anomaly by which pages can quickly appear and then disappear in Google page rankings. Usually occurs to newly added webpages."Basically, Everflux refers to the constant change in Google's Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), while Google constantly scours the web looking for “minty fresh” content, changing their index accordingly. In plain English, occasionally, ranks go up or down randomly, link popularity is completely lost, pages that have been indexed for years jus Evangelist Leonard Ravenhill used to say "the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the Standard of power in the New Testament." Just a few years ago I was travelling all over the world to accomplish similar things. The travel was interesting, but I think the days of hopping planes to install software are over...or soon to be. The ease with which the task was accomplished with nobody leaving their desks was amazing. I think once you experience this, you won't be able to imagine why anyone would do this any other way.Of course, installing software is only one of the things that such conferencing allows you to do. Meetings, training, sales presentations, and collaborations of any sort fit right in, and corporate workplaces are not the only venue in which such tools can be used. Internet marketers are starting to realize the power of the approach. Teleconferences have been a popular marketing tool for sometime, and webcasts and webinars are becoming more and more popular. A webcast usually refers to a one-way broadcast from presenter to audience, while a webinar usually involves two way communication - the audience can respond - typically through a telephone, although many service providers are starting to bundle in voice communication with their web services.Imagine you're marketing an information product on the web. Want to demonstrate it's virtues to your leads? Well, it's very easy to do. Purchase a one-time meeting package from the vendor of your choice, send the web address of the meeting page to your leads, set up voice access either with the vendor, or through another teleconferencing service, and off you go! GOING DEEPER WITH GOD John 3:16 tells us that God loved the world - you and me - SO MUCH - that He gave His one and only Son, Jesus. The cross represents God's love; the Resurrection represents God's Power. Imagine being the Apostle Paul for a minute. You've raised the dead and many believe you were raised from death yourself. You've healed people, cast out demons, wrote more world-changing literature than anyone in history ever would...and your greatest ambition is "I want to know Him." Does that impress anybody besides me? Is that your goal? It certainly is my own. Don't settle for counterfeits, my friends. Religion, ritualism, dogmatism, doctrines of devils and of men...there are many traps that the enemy has set that are intended to appease the religious nature of man and tap into our spiritual nature. They seem spiritual, sound spiritual and make us "feel" spiritual. They are counterfeits that may even raise a few goose pimples. Yet most who settle for these trappings and partake of them regularly are no deeper in their relationship with God than a committed Army soldier is endeared by the military branch of which he is a part. They'll cut you loose in a heartbeat after decades of service. Institutional Christianity is no different; "Churchianity," I call it. Do you want a deeper revelation of Christ? There is something about the Resurrection that we have yet to grasp. My wife and I recently had a well dug on our property. They had to dig over 500 feet to find it but there was cool, clear water down there that just had to be untapped. Let's tap into the Resurrection a little bit more. Everything we know about Christianity balances on that one occurrence, the crowning miracle of God. For if there is no resurrection, we are yet in our sins. WE'RE GONNA DIE! First: theirs had no power in itself nor did theirs offer any power to anyone else. Second: they were all called forth from the dead by Jesus or some other man of God. Jesus wasn't called forth by anybody. Third: when they were resurrected, some were wearing burial cloths. Jesus walked out and left those rags in the tomb like a caterpillar slips out of a cocoon. The biggest difference between His Resurrection and anybody else's was that, eventually, they all died again. Years ago, while I was praying and asking God for a friend's healing, He reminded me that everyone Jesus healed eventually died. What was the purpose for those who come back - cheated Death - as we say? To bring glory to His name, I imagine. To share the experience with others that they might repent and receive Him, I guess. God has a plan, that's all I know. Everyone who was resurrected died twice. They must have, unless they're all hiding away in secret somewhere, like an ace relief pitcher awaiting "the nod" to get into the game. But Scripture states: "It's appointed unto man once to die and then the judgement," (Hebrews 9:27). In general, yes, that's true. Any exceptions in Scripture involved Jesus or those He used - and currently IS using - to do so. That's right, people are STILL being raised from the dead around the globe. Some might say, "But Enoch and Elijah didn't die!" The end of Revelation says they will after lying about in the streets of Jerusalem. Perhaps they'll die from a terrorist's bomb in a nightclub. Who knows. God says in Adam all die. That means we're
