Answer Upon - ISO 9001, What Next?
How To Outwit Overwhelm As An Entrepreneur undertaking of the International Standards Organization in developing international quality management systems for business enterprises. Like when you've got an important client meeting scheduled that you have to cancel because of an emergency trip to the dentist. Or you come down with the flu right before a big conference that you've rented a booth for. Or your return home from vacation gets delayed and you find that you're a day behind in your work ;).It's times like these that overwhelm can zap your energy, making it even harder to get over the hurdle. So what's a busy entrepreneur to do?Before you reach the tearing-your-hair-out, ready-to-collapse-with-despair stage, sit down, take several deep breaths, and gather your wits about you. The first step in getting from Point A to Point B is knowing which direction to go, so you need to be rational when plotting your course. You'll be much more effective in accomplishing tasks when you can approach them with a sense of calm.Prioritize. First, think about all the things that need to get done, and make a list of them in order of importance. Include everything you can think of Advertising on Local Cable or Radio, Which is Best and Why? The overriding goal of ISO-14000. (History 1995)Most advertising executives and their sales forces will have all sorts of statistics why radio is better than cable television advertising or why cable advertising is better than radio. And each set of statistics is rather convincing indeed.Yet they contradict each other completely, but why? Well simple really you see the radio advertising sales people want you to put your advertising budget, all of it with them, while the Cable TV advertising executives are dead set on capturing your advertising dollar to their firm.No doubt they are competing media and often the same company owns both and will either try to give you an advertising marketing mix or attempt to fill up whatever slots of whichever media needs to be filled up that week, month, season or year? Great and that makes sense for them, but what about your business. You must make sure you get maximum bang for your buck and you cannot spend all your money on Cable Ads or Radio, I mean you have lots of other expenses too right? Sure, what about employees and rent on your location? If you spend all your money on advertising, you will be out of business As ISO-9000 becomes a way of life for the global business community, ISO-14000 is almost ready to debut with its own set of standards for voluntary environmental compliance. Much has been heard recently about the antiregulation sentiment sweeping across the country. Lawmakers in Washington have responded with talk of "regulatory reform" and programs aimed at "re-inventing government." One of the targets of this regulatory backlash has been the ever-burgeoning flood of environmental laws and regulations continuing to impose burdens on corporate America. A common thread running throughout this rhetoric has been a perception that government is too big and that corporate self-policing and self-management can achieve far greater benefits at far less cost. It is unlikely that meaningful relief from environmental regulations will come any time soon. However, a major step in the direction of voluntary corporate initiatives in this area is on the horizon. Getting Ready for 14000 The Geneva-based International Standards Organization, with the assistance of representatives from over 40 countries, is in the final stages of developing ISO-14000, a set of voluntary international environmental quality standards designed to promote sound corporate management of environmental compliance matters. When fully adopted in early 1996, the standards will allow companies to obtain ISO-14000 certification of their operations in recognition of the development of these comprehensive environmental quality standards. Many small business owners prefer this form of corporation as it provides greater flexibility in management. The general characteristics of LLC’s are limited duration of existence, no double taxation and member or owner managed business.LLC’s can be incorporated by filing with the state authorities. The general procedure is that of incorporating a corporation. The advantages over a corporation are that there is no need to get the consent of shareholders, no need to issue shares and no need for the board of directors. When selecting the name of the business, it should end with LLC. Since the existence of LLC is limited, the duration has to be mentioned. Since LLC’s are run by member-owners, they have their own operating agreement. Once these are decided, the LLC can be incorporated by filing with the state authorities.LLC’s have to comply with state laws and regulations. The tax on LLC is passed on to the members. Whilst there is no sure fire route to commercial success, these processes improve the probability that good ideas will be generated and selected and that investment in developing and commercialising those ideas will not be wasted. One of the most important aspects of creativity and innovation is access to decision makers. One of the fastest killers of creativity and innovation is the inability of innovators to get products off the ground – and when people see that their ideas are not being implemented, they are resistant to engaging in the problem and expending the energy required to come up with good ideas and push them along.Further, often leaders feel they provide creators and innovators with links to decision makers but in reality all the do is provide links to gate It is unlikely that meaningful relief from environmental regulations will come any time soon. Turning back, we see our colleagues scooped up the same way and facing the other side of the wall. Drab working conditions create stale minds and people get suffocated in their offices. Well, if you are not one of them, you are very lucky. However, there are simple ways to beautify office spaces, making your working hours more pleasant and bearable. A flower or a plant on your desk will be a visual relaxation from the monitor radiation. Placing the desk near a window or a door, so that you face an opening will also refresh your tired eyes and brain. Add a picture or painting to this, and you will have a good office space. If you are a company looking for new office space, you need to plan your requirements before shopping around for sites. Apart from simple additions like those mentioned above, you need to determine the working area you need, the number of offices, the seating types and arrangements for your employees, and amenities like lunch rooms, coffee bars, etc. that you would like When fully adopted in early 1996, the standards will allow companies to obtain ISO-14000 certification of their operations in recognition of the development of these comprehensive environmental quality standards. You have the best of intentions. And that's the problem. It leads you to appeal for funding for all the wrong reasons.Take healthcare for example. The US foreign-born population comprises a larger segment than at any time in the past five decades. And this trend is expected to continue(1). People of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural heritage suffer disproportionately from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and every form of cancer. In addition, their infant mortality rates are generally higher(2). Minorities receive measurably poorer care and they suffer for it.Great reasons for diversity training. Disastrous reasons to ask for executive funding for your diversity program. If you doubt me, just look at your budget. Chances are you’re getting sincere encouragement from the boardroom but not budget codes that represent significant financial resources. Here’s the nut of the problem. If you're at or near the front lines--the medical floor if you're in healthcare, or sales or service if you're in a corporation--the dis While initially slow to gain acceptance in the business community, ISO-9000 certification is fast becoming a necessary part of standard business practices, both in the US and abroad. It is estimated that by 1996, 12,000 US companies will be ISO-9000-certified, up from only 100 in 1990. Internationally, more than 50,000 companies have received ISO-9000 certification. The idea behind extending the ISO quality management principles into the environmental arena arose out of the historic United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. Joe Cascio, IBM program director/environmental, health and safety standardization, and chairman of one of the ISO technical advisor groups, reports that the Rio conference discussions produced "a proliferation of national and regional environmental management, labeling and audit schemes that could have impacted international trade in a very severe way." The need to bring some standardization to these conflicting programs ultimately provided the impetus for the formation of ISO-14000. What IS0-14000 is - and isn't - About What, then, is ISO-14000 all about? The overriding goal of ISO-14000 is to develop a comprehensive system of universally accepted corporate standards to ensure that companies will be in a position to successfully manage their environmental compliance matters. ISO-14000 is not about developing regulations to attain certain pollution standards. Instead, the focus is on the management of environmental issues or the development of internal corporate management programs ultimately leadi
