    Branding on a Budget
Small Dogs Press is a new publishing house. In addition to selling their first title, "She's the Girl," Small Dogs wants to create awareness of their brand. Here's what publisher Susan Sabo has to say about some creative (and inexpensive) ways to do so:"I've spent as much time and effort on brand marketing for Small Dogs Press as I have for my individual title that's about to come out. Totes are good, hats, sweatshirts, bumper stickers . . . the possibilities are all over the place.""I made up bumper stickers for company branding: they

Have You Ever Thought of Joining or Forming a Consortium?
Are you an entrepreneur but don't like selling alone? A consortium is a combination of different industry-types of entrepreneurs working together to attract business as a group. Even though each member maintains their individuality and operates as the same as self-employed. They band to create a more valuable package to fulfill bigger needs for clients and for increased visibility and credibility. The positive side to being part of a consortium is that you can work on larger projects. Larger than any single entrepreneur can accompl

Years ago, when I was in graduate school, I enrolled in a course titled, "Services Marketing." Among other things, my professor required that we document three positive and/or negative customer experiences we had each week to share with the class.

We were asked to include the following:

    1. Describe what happened.

    2. How did this make you feel?

3a. What should they have done to make your experience better?

    or

3b. What did they do that exceeded your expectations?

At first, I viewed this as just another task on my "to-do" list, but soon discovered what a valuable learning exercise it turned out to be! I continue documenting my experiences in a log book (it’s a life

    Ethics and Business and Government
So often we hear about dishonesty in ethics in business and government. We hear of Democratic Senators and Congressmen who will not listen to you unless you donate money to their campaigns and this goes for citizens and business people alike. It is no wonder that many business people fund political contributions. It is also no wonder with such a system that Congressmen go beyond the call of duty of listening and intervene in business activity and help one business over another in the competitive market place. Indeed but really didn't Adam Smit

To Survive, You Need To Teach Old Dogs New tricks
The sea change that most businesses face today is increasingly becoming the norm rather than the exception. The change is driven by globalisation, technological and social dynamics. Hovering around the status quo is like a cancer stricken person waiting for his condition to get better. If you continue doing the same, things are not going to get better. There is a saying that you cannot teach old dogs new tricks. To survive in today’s competitive market, old dogs need to be taught new tricks.Organisations fail to change because of ol

    Maximize Your Marketing Time
How much time do you spend actively marketing your business? Do you spend more than a couple of hours per week? How much time should you spend actively marketing your business? Many small business owners and service providers don't know what their answer to this question should be? They're not really sure how much time they should be spending on marketing. But, a majority of the professionals I ask say they're only spending a couple of hours per week.In working with clients one-on-one and through my Growth Marketing Power

Another Year Hating Your Job or Loving Life
I've come to the conclusion that to be successful - really successful - you've got to love what you do.Not like it okay. Not do it because you know how. Not do it because you've invested so much time and energy into it. I mean LOVE it! The kind of love that makes you want to get up in the morning and get going. Because your work has meaning, significance, and fulfillment. If these aren't words that describe what you do day-in and day-out, then perhaps this year is the time to make a change, to step up to your big, bodacious moment - or

As part of my preparation for this article I decided to randomly select an entry I’d included. So, I pulled out my log binder, shut my eyes, opened it up and pointed my index finger anywhere on the page.

    Here’s the one I selected:

    1. Description: My company is getting ready to participate in a trade show so I decided to but some "trash and trinkets" (giveaways) personalized with our company’s logo. Remembering that I had recently received a direct mail piece from a local company I decided to give them a try.
