How To Run A Successful Small Business
Let's face it; it's not easy being a small business owner or a solo professional. In addition to creating effective marketing plans and marketing strategies that will get paying customers through the door, we need to be on top of all the other important aspects of running a business.

We see opportunities that have been missed, potential which has not been achieved, dreams which have faded, in the harsh light of realism. Little wonder then, that New Year resolutions are such a popular exercise. Everyone must yearn to make some progress as we travel the road of life. This is after all, the way the world progresses. Before you eagerly join the throng of resolvers though, let's think a bit about resolutions.

Some quick and easy resolutions come to mind. In the bad old days, when people smoked, quitting smoking was on everyone's list. Now we resolve to lose those extra inches around the middle, eat healthier meals, exercise more. Sure, these are all admirable resolutions, but we know deep-down that for most people, their resolution will be broken almost as soon as they are made. Can we do better? We must be able to improve our success rate.

Some time ago, I gave up making resolutions for the New Year. I have opted instead to set goals. Goals seem less frivolous, more serious somehow. We can define goals in a way which makes their accomplishment more probable. We can assign time frames and break them down, so that their progress can be monitored. If the goal fails to be achieved (although that will never happen to us!) because of the planning and feed-back which is built in to the process, it is much easier to determine where we went wrong, and avoid the same mistake again.
