While I don’t want to miss an important call from a client, I think it’s not a good idea to discuss aspects of you business in public and it's definitely not a good idea to try and conduct business while driving.

Your clients will usually know you are not a big company and that you rely on voice mail to cover your phone when you’re out of the office. But the more important issue is your being able to get out of the office once in a while to be free from the stress of constantly conducting business.

Also, by establishing office hours and by having reasonable client expectations regarding your availability outside the office by cell phone or other means, you are establishing a professional relationship. Being available at all hours and places by cell phone doesn’t necessarily make your business more credible or make you more service minded than the competition.

It’s rare today to see a family eating a meal together at a restaurant without someone answering their cell phone and conducting business or personal matters in public.
