Even though once you’re certified, there is no expiration on your certification cards, its important that you keep diving and stay current with changes in the dive sciences.

    Dive organizations and instructors should help reduce the drop out rates, although there is little money in keeping divers as apposed to the income potential in new divers.

    Many people choose to take a “crash course” in scuba diving, which is one reason why people done keep diving. Resort Dive Operations or Cruise Lines are doing what they can for the little time they have someone visiting them and try to offer many services.

    I also thought about getting certified while in Mexico on a trip, thinking that it would be much easier to get certified during the week I was on vacation there. I am sure that if I did choose that option I would not be diving today.

    Another area where divers drop out is, that after the basic training, they cannot find others to go dive with. Some instructors are either too busy or because there is not money in diving with those who they already certified. The second part is not true, the more people dive, the more they will want to expand their training and equipment, resulting in more money for the instructor and dive operations.
