New Chemical Security Rules Go Into Effect 6-8-07
On June 8th, 2007 the new Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulations (6 CFR part 27) dealing with security requirements at chemical facilities go into effect. These new rules will be used to protect High-Risk Chemical Facilities from terrorist attack. These rules specify what organizations will be required to provide data to DHS to assist that agency in determining which facilities are declared to be High Risk Facilities. One of the important parts of this regulation is the broad definition it uses for 'chemical f

Between Classes and Concerts: Time Management for the Harassed Music Major
Recitals, concerts, rehearsals, classes. The list can simply go on for the overwhelmed music major.By the middle of the first semester, even an average music major can easily fall prey into the crackpot-genius category, walking with blood-shot eyes towards the next class while humming incoherent pam-pa-ram-pam-pam tunes from last night’s rehearsals. So what do you get with an hour’s lecture on counterpoint? Drool.Start shaping up your schedule. How do you intend to do that? Start by accepting and appreciating you
    Hi Everybody

We all know how hygiene is really important, whether it’s personal hygiene or the surroundings that we live and work in, but what do we know about all the chemicals we all readily use.

Chemicals come in many forms, such as pesticides that are sprayed on food, and that is one of the main reason it is so important to wash all foods well before eating, or removing the peel. This I cannot stress enough, especially with imports.

We seem to be unaware and overlook many chemicals such as the ones used in the production of everyday goods like perfumes, deodorants, even carpets and soft furnishings, the list is endless.

If you look in the cupboard under your sink, I bet like me, you have a vast range of different products and cleaners to use in every room of your home, especially the kitchen and bathroom.

Manufacturers with clever advertising, have us believing we need a different product for every task, playing on MRSA, super bugs and other health problems to boost sales.

But studies have shown that with all the chemicals we are using health problems are increasing, predominantly asthma and eczema.

The use of deodorant has been linked with cancer, and worryingly, teenagers seem to be continually spraying their bodies with hair spray, body spray, perfume or deodorant. Scientists say they have yet to see what other complications this will cause them in the future.

Scientists say that children in the womb who are exposed to common everyday chemicals, which are used regularly in most homes, are at risk of development problems and disorders such as autism.

Evidence has been found, that previously thought to be harmless PCB compounds may actually be responsible for damaging the part of the brain that processes sound.

PCB - polychlorinated biphenyls were widely used in flame- retardants, electronics and home and office furniture for their tendency to burn slowly. They were banned in 1977 because some types of PCB, - not the ones tested in the recent study – were shown to pose a serious threat to health.

Even after 30 years, these compounds still persist in the environment, having being widely dispersed through soil and the atmosphere. They then enter the body through the food chain and dust particles, and then pass on to babies in the womb and during breastfeeding.

There but for the Grace of God go I ... Stopped Smoking Cigarettes
God Did For Me What I Could Not Do For MyselfI don’t remember exactly what day I started smoking cigarettes, but I do remember the day that I quit smoking as if it were yesterday. At about ten years of age, started acting cool like grown ups with a couple friends by acting as though we smoked by rolling up dried lawn grass from backyards and the Merrill Park in the Jeffery Manor at Chicago, Illinois. We also tried smoking dried tree leaves rolled up inside notebook paper, typing paper, old Chicago Transit Authori

    Vitamin E For Scars
Scars are tissues consisting of collagens, which are produced by special cells of the skin called fibroblasts. They are produced continuously. When skin is burned, cut or scraped, collagens fill up the hole to heal the wound and close it. Since collagens are numerously produced when the skin is cut, and they are haphazardly placed, they appear discolored and noticeable to the eye.The healing of the wound and the disappearance of the scars take time either by fading on their own or changing color and shape. Climate Changing in China Not Likely - Global Warming Can Take a Hike
Interestingly enough China stated that it would not allow Global Warming to get in the way of its nation's growth and basically told the rest of the World to deal with their own issues. Indeed, if you will recall the Clintons and Al Gore have stated that the US is to blame and developing nations should be allowed different rules? So, who is really concerned about Global Warming or is this whole thing turning into a giant hot potato football game?If China, one of the largest polluters whose pollution blows all the way to

Buying A Ladder For A Weekend Project Is A Snap Or So You Thought - My Adventures
Buying a ladder for a weekend project is a snap. Leave the coffeepot on. Drive to the nearest hardware store. Get a ladder that fits the height requirement for the job. Load the ladder in the back of the SUV. Return home.Nope! My local hardware store has a courtesy questionnaire that you must complete before you can buy a ladder. Then there is the release of liability form if you don't watch the safety video."What is this?" I asked the clerk. It seems my local hardware store owner had been su

Some of the old fashioned methods of cleaning should be now be implemented again, with the use of boiling dishcloths and tea towels to kill germs. Towels and bed linen also used to be boil washed, but with today’s low temperature washing programmes, materials that cannot be boiled and high cost of electricity, boil washes are rarely used.

Introduction of the new micro fibre cloths has proved helpful, as only water is often necessary for many tasks and these cloths can generally be boil washed.

Years ago vinegar and lemons were regularly used in the cleaning regime, with other everyday products like bicarbonate of soda and these are still just as effective today.

With today’s busy lifestyle time is always at a premium, so preparing our own cleaning products is not high on our list of priorities, but next time you are at the supermarket, keep an eye on the amount of cleaning products you put in your shopping basket, and check out the eco friendly range, although it has been said that some of these too should be purchased warily.

If this makes you think twice about the amount of chemicals you actually use around your home and around your family, especially developing children, then this article will have served its purpose.

There are some good books with information on alternative natural cleaners that be used for many household tasks, just cutting down on the amount of chemicals you use can only be a plus, for you and your family.

I hope you find this interesting.
