    Inoculation: Defend Against the Attack

During the Korean War, Americans were shocked at the number of captured soldiers who willingly cooperated with the enemy. Mergers And Acquisitions, What Are They?
Mergers and acquisitions happen just about every business day of the year. You may not hear about many of them, mainly because they are low key companies. But, having the inside scoop on the latest and greatest mergers and acquisitions can help you to keep your head above water as well. What are these and why are they so important anyway? If you are not sure what mergers and acquisitions are, let's talk for a moment about that.In the simplest of terms, a merger is the combining of two companies. Of course, there will be rules, laws as well as a long list of contracts to cover all of the basics and then some. The acquisition is different because in this case the companies will become one, but one is buying the other. It is not a combined effort to rule together so to speak but one company out right purchasing the other. That is the most basic of understanding for what mergers and acquisitions are. They are important for a number of reasons. For example, you may be part of one of those mergers and or acquisitions. In that case, you'll want to know what is happening to you and your job. But, if you are not part to fit, you still need some information about how it all happens to effect your business. If two companies that make paper merge, and you make paper as w
To be an effective persuader, you cannot use the same tactics for all people all the time. You have to customize your message to fit the demographics, interests, and values of your audience. This chapter presents what I call the Pre-Persuasion Checklist. It will help you to effectively adapt your persuasive techniques to your target audience. The foundation of the Pre-Persuasion Checklist is rooted in a solid understanding of human psychology, the ways to handle resistance, and the methods of effectively structuring a persuasive argument. This is the knowledge necessary to make the Pre-Persuasion Checklist work in any persuasive situation.

All battles are first won in the mind. You have to be mentally ready to persuade. Prepare yourself by knowing as much about your audience as possible. The persuasion process can be thought of as "persuasion engineering." You have to draw up the blueprint for your persuasive techniques instead of "flying by the seat of your pants." It's like reading the roadmap before you drive. You need to understand where you are going, what route you should take, what the driving conditions will be, etc. Pre-persuasion operates the same way. Just remember the three D's: discover, design, and deliver:

Deliver the message with passion, compassion, and purpose.

We all have our own "personal code." As a Master Persuader, you must unlock your prospects' codes. Most of this code is hidden from the untrained eye, so you'll have to know what to look for. Consider how code is used in designing web pages. We have all surfed the Internet and seen hundreds, even thousands, of different Web pages. Underlying each page is HTML code. This code makes each page look and act differently. Many pages have hidden code that is difficult to find and understand. Similarly, we each have code that is apparent and some other code that is not apparent. Our code is the sum of our beliefs, experiences, motivations, thoughts, attitudes, values, personality, and so on that makes us who we are. The key for you as a Master Persuader is to decode the situation or the prospect, so you can know how to most effectively persuade your audience.

Finding and interpreting code comes with knowledge and experience, and the more knowledge and more experience you have, the easier it becomes to find and crack the code.

    Trade Show Booth Tear-Down
After a show wraps, your entire booth staff will want to leave as soon as possible. Some may even book return flights that coincide with the end of the show. Avoid laying the burden of tear-down, packing and shipping on one person. In your pre-show planning, be sure that staff time and travel allows for adequate booth tear-down, packing, and shipping.Never tear-down your booth before the show is over. This projects an unprofessional and "I can't wait to get out of here!" message to those last-minute attendees, who by the way, may have a need to hurry up and gather info about your product/service!Take care when packing up your booth – particularly with graphic panels and lighting. Trade show displays are an investment, and should be treated as such in packing and shipping. Be sure that you have appropriate shipping cases that will protect your displays in shipping.Obey the shipping rules and regulations of the show hall. Most halls and conference centers require your packages to be marked and/or left for the shippers in a certain way. Failure to properly pack, label, or leave your packages in the right location may results in their being lost, damaged, or slow to return.

    It Could Happen to You
This is a true story.I was 25 years old when I answered an ad in the Toronto Star one day.It read "GROUND FLOOR OPPORTUNITY". The content of the ad basically discussed the fact that the company was new, willing to train managers in every facet of the business and would promote successful candidates into their own office. As well they had large ,international intentions.I walked into a cramped ,shabby interior of an office smack dab in the heart of Chinatown but what struck me was the energy of the place and the confidence of the gentleman who interviewed me ( unbeknownst to me at the time but he was a millionaire by the age of 30).I was hired on a 100% commission plan only and thus I entered the world of telemarketing selling paper rolls and ribbons for POS,cash registers and credit card machines. It was a classic boiler room only the business was a legitimate model through and through. However, hustle and attitude were the vernacular of the day. These gentlemen had run businesses before but their forte was strictly a direct sales platform where their peopel were independent brokers and every deal was cash on the barrelhead. The one big gaffe that they were committing and it proved to be a valuable lesson for me to pay heed to before I was promoted to my first office 11 m

How Much Do Car Washes Save by Hiring Illegal Aliens?
Have you noticed at your car wash that most of the workers are in fact illegal aliens and illegal immigrants and even the ones who may be legal do not speak English? Well this is because the car wash industry is the most notorious for hiring illegal aliens. In fact most car washes I have been to do hire illegal aliens and these carwashes have been doing it for decades right out in the open. You see they save a lot of money exploiting people and paying super low wages to these Mexicans. Indeed it is rather pathetic that car wash owners who are also notorious for skimming money from their businesses and cheating on their taxes would take even a further unethical tactics of exploitation of their workforce. Of course they do save tons of money each year hiring these illegal aliens. Most carwashes say that;“Well we did not know they were illegal aliens, we thought those documents were legitimate.”Yes well I have heard this comment, but the reality is it is not true, sure they know darn good and well what they are doing all right. How do they get away with it? Well you get your car wash and you don’t do any thing about, you do not call the border patrol or say anything at all? Indeed it is the customer who allows them to get away with this. Consider this in 2006.

    Time Clocks
Ever since the Industrial Revolution, employee time has been monitored, controlled and managed to preserve the interests of the enterprise. It has also been used in motivational programs as negative and positive reinforcements. In today’s modern setting, the concept of employee time is challenged by principles such as in time (or JIT) and flexi-time. Nevertheless, the need to keep track of employee performance is keeping time clocks alive in factories, offices, and other work areas.Modern Time ClocksTo keep pace with the fast moving economic and industrial environment, traditional bundy clocks have long been replaced by electronic time clocks. This modern version harnesses the advancements in information technology and incorporates them in time keeping. Time clocks these days not only record time, they generate reports and analyze data. They can handle specific and unique time arrangements, quickly adjust to shifts and changes in schedules, and serve as additional security features by recognizing employees and refusing access to unauthorized personnel. And even in the most modern and sophisticated time clock systems, there have already been improvements. Employees need not depend on the time clock to register their finger or palm or retina scan, or swipe their acc

    Inoculation: Defend Against the Attack

During the Korean War, Americans were shocked at the number of captured soldiers who willingly cooperated with the enemy. Initially they wondered whether the soldiers had been tortured and beaten into submission. Investigation revealed that the soldiers had not been tortured, but rather that they had been subjected to brainwashing sessions led by a skillful questioner. Soldiers were questioned about American ideologies such as freedom, democracy, and equality. Surprisingly, many of the soldiers had great difficulty defending their beliefs. The captors persisted in attacking beliefs the soldiers couldn't explain until the soldiers began to question and doubt the validity of those beliefs. If the captors could get the soldiers that far, getting them to commit treason became much easier. New soldiers from that point on began receiving more extensive political training in addition to the typical military instruction. No soldier would ever again hold vaguely defined beliefs or be unable to defend America verbally or militarily.

How did the military train their soldiers to withstand the potential verbal attacks as had been perpetrated against them in the Korean War? What would keep them strong in the face of such adversity, preventing them from crumbling? It is a method called "inoculation." The term "inoculation" comes from the medical field: Injecting a weak dose of a virus into a patient inoculates or prevents the patient from actually getting the disease. The body's immune system fights off this weak form of the disease and then is prepared when the full disease attacks.

Likewise, when you are presenting to an audience who has an opposing viewpoint standing in the wing, you have to "inoculate" them with a weakened form of the other side's argument. If you know someone is going to attack your viewpoint, you prepare your audience in advance for the attack.

The idea is to address the issues that your opponent will bring up and then directly refute them. The point to understand is that the inoculation must be a weak form of the "virus." If you inoculated a human body with the strong strain of a disease, they could become sick or even die. The dose must be weak enough to prepare the body for the stronger virus but not so strong that it overpowers the body. In persuasion, you don't want to give strong doses. You don't want to give your prospects all the ammunition from the other side of the persuasive message. On the other hand, if you don't prepare your audience for what they are about to hear, the sting of your opponent's words, logic, or testimony
