Making Your Virtual Business Appear Larger
A few weeks ago, I received a phone call from a client who wanted to refer more business my way. She didn't realize that I work alone from my home office and thought that my company web site was an actual huge corporation. "Your web site makes you seem like a much larger company." she said. That is exactly the point I wanted to get a
Let's continue our lesson about "The Concept of Demand and Supply"...

In the previous lesson, we found out that the Demand for "flower" is 2,296,287.

How about the "Supply"? The Supply simply means...how many sites are related to a certain subject, in this case "flower". Now let's go to:

    http://www.Google.com

I typed "flower" and the results... Voila! There are 65,800,000 link results in Google. That means, the Supply for "flower" is 65,800,000.

Now let's open a spreadsheet and create 4 columns. The first column should be entitled "Keyword", "Demand" for the second, "Supply" for the third and the last one should be "Demand/Supply Ratio".

I'm telling you, this is not just a Read-and-Do-Nothing kind of lesson, but this is a Read-Understand-and-Do-It lesson... So get going..!

Now once you have the spreadsheet, you can find out about the other interests in your list. How their Demand and Supply is doing. If the Supply is too big, that means you have too many competitors in that field and you don't want that!

For example, let's see how "web business" is doing...

    The Extra Mile
I recently had an experience with a small business that reminded me of the power of "the extra mile" principle. The "extra mile principle" is the act of going above and beyond expectations; going out of your way to provide an uncommonly high level of service to another, whether a customer, a friend, a relative or even a stranger, not be
just a Read-and-Do-Nothing kind of lesson, but this is a Read-Understand-and-Do-It lesson... So get going..!

    People Reading in Real Time
We've heard the slogans: career success depends on developing relationships, establish rapport with your colleagues. And do it quickly! No longer is it enough to treat our co-workers the way we would like to be treated. Now we are being challenged to employ the Platinum Corollary to the Golden Rule: do unto others the
doing. If the Supply is too big, that means you have too many competitors in that field and you don't want that!

For example, let's see how "web business" is doing...

The Demand for "web business" in Overture during March 2005 is 3208. Let's say in Google the number was 25,664 (actually, Google's Demand prediction is not very important, because we only need to see the comparison of several keywords. We only need the ratio of Demand/Supply...which one has the biggest ratio with the smallest number of Supply).

How about the Supply in Google? I found the number was 1,000,000,000! That is 1 billion competitors..! I would certainly cross "web business" out of my list...

What we are looking for is one keyword with acceptable Demand and not too many competitors. And to find this keyword you have to play a lot with phrases. Don't be too general so the Supply is crowded, yet don't be too specific so the Demand is poor.

Let's get back to "flower". Although the Demand is good, but you see that the Supply is also enormous. Now when I typed the keyword "flower" in Overture, the result also displayed other related keywords. I saw the keyword "f
