    E-Procurement Services
E-procurement helps companies cut costs and increase productivity by implementing automation in purchase process. This automation reduces overheads and wastages that usually occur in traditional purchases. In spite of the slowing global economy, more and more companies are awakening to the benefits of automation. Numerous software companies cater to the procurement needs by providing quality e-procurement services. A good software managing online purchasing handles all aspects of the purchase process, ranging from the requisition to the arrival of goods. Standard e-procurement software features RFQ (Request For Quotation), automatic bidding and automated negotiation tools. There are many e-procurement service providers. The service provider generally takes care of the implementation and management of the e-procurement system. It needs great expertise and a sound knowledge of the company’s requirements to implement purchase automation effectively. E-procurement services are offered for either a monthly or yearly service charge. The software handle tasks ranging from preparation of the inventory to the delivery of the goods. The makers of the software also provide onsite training for handling the system. Most e-procurement services providers design t
supervisory/managerial personnel are paid best in architectural, civil (general), and environmental engineering firms, and worst in land surveying firms and electrical/electronics engineering firms. Engineering and scientific jobs pay best in electrical and highway/traffic/transportation engineering firms, and worst in environmental, surveying, and geotechnical engineering firms. CADD/designing/drafting jobs pay best in highway/traffic/transportation and civil (general and primarily land development) engineering firms, and worst in surveying and environmental engineering firms. Laboratory, land surveying, and technician jobs pay best in highway/traffic/transportation and civil (general or primarily structural) engineering firms, and worst in surveying and geotechnical engineering firms.

    Annual Fees

Overall, this factor is not a good indicator of the median total annual cash compensation received by all types of employees in the consulting engineering/land surveying field, except at the highest levels.

    Number of Employees

This factor is also not a good overall predictor of median total annual cash compensation in the consulting engineering/land surveying field, again except at the highest levels.

    Type of Work Performed

For supervisory/managerial personnel, median total annual cash compensation is highest in computer science and civil engineering (general), and lowest in CADD design, land surveying, and electrical/electronics engineering. For engineering and scientific jobs, it is highest in aeronautical/aerospace and chemical engineering, and lowest i

    How Stainless Steel Was Invented
Stainless Steel is more than just steel that doesn't stain! It is an umbrella term that covers various types of steel that are resistant to corrosion. There are at least two claims to the title of inventor, one from the UK and one from Sweden. The most likely inventor is Harry Brearley, the son of a steel melter. Harry, who was born in Sheffield in 1871, studied the properties of steel and the effects that various production processes had on it.In 1908, two large steel firms set up a research company called Brown Firth Laboratories and asked Harry to head it up. It's job would be to improve production processes. One of the problems he was asked to solve was the erosion of rifle barrels through the effects of heat and discharge gasses.Brearley's experiments centred on the addition of chromium and carbon. Steels with chromium as an ingredient tended to have a higher melting point and this suggested that chromium may also produce a more robust and corrosion-resistant steel. After some trial and error, in 1913 he produced a steel with a 12.8% chromium content along with 0.24% carbon. He subjected the samples that were produced to various chemicals, including acid that would corrode standard steel along with vinegar and citrus juice. The r
The composite highest-income practitioner in this field (salary plus cash bonus and/or cash profit sharing) is the President "A" (defined as a chief executive officer who is the owner of, a full partner in, or a major stockholder in the firm) of a consulting engineering firm. The firm provides services in civil (general, structural, and/or land development), or geotechnical engineering; receives in excess of $25,000,000 in gross annual fees for services rendered; has 500 or more employees; and is headquartered in or near Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, St. Louis, Oakland/East Bay, Milwaukee, Portland (OR), Lincoln (NE), Chicago, Middlesex-Essex Counties (MA), or Sacramento. This individual has a BS in engineering or higher, and 20 or more years of experience. While the median President "A" has a total annual income of $112,000, the highest-income individuals reported in this group make over $1,000,000.

Far toward the other end of the income spectrum, Field Technicians have a median income of $27,400. Sometimes earning under $18,000, the lowest-paid employees in this group usually are located in or near St. Louis, Corpus Christi, Milwaukee, or Richmond/Petersburg (VA), or outside metropolitan areas studied in Missouri; work for firms providing services in surveying or general civil or geotechnical engineering; have under three years of experience; and have no college training.

These composites represent the briefest possible "boil-down" of the voluminous data provided regarding current salaries and cash bonuses and/or profit sharing, and numerous demographic variables provided by 216 consulting engineering and land surveying firms on more than 5,300 employees in 152 benchmark jobs. The end results of the survey appear in Compensation in Consulting Engineering and Land Surveying Firms, 10th Edition - 2004, an 888-page, four-volume statistical analysis of compensation in this field.

Copies of the entire report are available for $1,200.00 from Abbott, Langer & Associates, Inc., Dept. ART, 548 First St., Crete, IL 60417 (telephone 708/672-4200; fax 708/672-4674; www.abbott-langer.com). The volumes may be purchased separately (Volume 1 - supervisory & managerial jobs and Volume 2 - non-supervisory engineers & scientists for $495.00 each; and Volume 3 - CADD/design/draftings jobs and Volume 4 - laboratory/surveying/technician jobs for $395.00 each).

It would be an exercise in futility to attempt more than a superficial overview of the survey results in this summary. However, some overall data regarding compensation can be presented herein, and some comments can be made.

Businesses Are Failing - Here Are Some Prime Examples Why!
Today, I took my wife to lunch. That in itself is hardly any news at all. However, what should have been a lovely celebration of something personal turned out to be pretty lousy. Here's what happened...We went to a local marina where there is a selection of restaurants. We strolled along the marina just to have a look at what was on offer. The first restaurant we walked into was about one-third full. I stood at the front desk and waited... and waited... and waited. There were three people behind the counter busying themselves with all sorts of menial tasks. I eventually managed to get the attention of a young lady. She stood directly in front of me and looked at me. Not a word did she speak. No "hello." No "welcome to our restaurant." Nothing. She just stood and looked. Eventually, I said: "Excuse me. What should we do? Do we order here or take a seat and wait for somebody?"The young lady sighed and mumbled something that sounded like: "do whatever you want." Not being one to suffer rudeness, inattentiveness or sarcasm too well when I am the paying customer I simply turned to my wife and we walked out.We selected a second restaurant a bit further along the boardwalk. In we went. We paid up front then were told to sit at t

    Knowledge is Business
Knowledge is the business fully as much as customer is the business. Physical goods or services are only the vehicle for the exchange of customer purchasing power against business knowledge”.Above statement was made by Peter F. Drucker, a prominent Management and marketing guru.Any economic result is the result of differentiation. What is that niche you posses that make you hot property in any market. It comes from knowledge. Knowledge is held by organization people. One day all labour can be automated by machines. But knowledge specifically is a human asset. If you have knowledgeable people you can target the sky. Books are more collection of information. Internet is one of the best medium for generating information on particular subject. But information is not a business.Knowledge itself is not a business when used inside. When it do not produce value to the holder of knowledge, it is useless. It becomes business when applied outside of a business, to the customer, market and end-uses.Mittal steel is king of steel market today. Ohio Has Some Serious Business History
Ohio has the word entrepreneur written all over the state. Great historical figures are gone now, but their legacy lives on. In Dayton, the Patterson’s and the Wrights left a legacy, which might be a tough one to live up to for these early pioneers shaped aviation history. In Akron, the Rubber Barons made their d?but. Entrepreneurs who assisted us in every aspect of modern life with innovations and trial and errors, which helped us get to the moon, space, win WWII, race cars, play sports, protect us in hospitals and of course mobility of the modern automobile. If they were today to drive around and see it all much would impress them, but much would certainly upset them and they would go out and fix it.Maybe OH and some of these other places might want to consult the writings and thoughts of these great men and get back to reality and fix the obvious to move their ball forward. It seems that level of ‘can do’ attitude has not been seen in decades, but it still exists today in the corporations, which bare their names.Ohio has other more recent legends such as Dave Thomas; founder of Wendy’s. Maybe you might wish to pick up his book and read it, “Franchising for Dummies” it too is rich with history of a more modern period. From where the

Why Your California Home Should Undergo Annual Mold Inspections
Are you a California homeowner? If you are, do you know if you currently have a mold problem? Although a large number of California homeowners are able to tell right away if they have a mold problem, as mold is often easy to spot, there are some homeowners who may have no idea that they have a mold problem. Unfortunately, by the time it is found out that there is a mold problem; the cost of mold removal is often quite high, as the problem may have spread or gotten worse. To prevent yourself from being put in that type of situation, you may want to think about having your home undergo an annual mold inspection.California residents, just like you, often wonder what an annual mold inspection can do for them. As it was previously mentioned, not all homeowners know that they have a mold problem. Mold tends to grow in areas that have large amounts of moisture. For that reason, one of the most common places that mold appears in is the in the bathroom; however, that is not the only location that mold can appear.Basements are another place where mold regularly appears. If you have a basement, but you do not always use it, you may not know that you have a mold problem. Mold can also appear in places that are hard to see or examine with the nak

For engineering and scientific jobs, it is highest in aeronautical/aerospace and chemical engineering, and lowest in ecology and land surveying. Among CADD/design/drafting personnel, designers (excluding CADD) are paid most and drafters (excluding CADD) are paid least. For laboratory, land surveying, and technician jobs, annual compensation is highest in civil engineering (primarily land development) and land surveying, and lowest in laboratory and earth sciences.

    Experience

In most areas surveyed, this is an excellent predictor of median total annual cash compensation: Typically, the more years of experience, the higher the compensation.

    Education

This is a major indicator of median total annual cash compensation in all areas surveyed. For supervisory/managerial personnel and those in the engineering/scientific field, a doctorate brought the highest compensation. An advanced degree resulted in the highest compensation for both CADD/designing/drafting and laboratory, land surveying, and technician jobs.

    Experience Versus Education

A combination of experience and education is a better predictor of compensation than either area alone. While dealt with in detail in the report, space does not allow an analysis of the data herein.

    Managerial/Supervisory Responsibility

Median total annual cash compensation varies greatly according to the level of supervisory responsibility. Compensation is highest for supervisory/managerial personnel who supervise 50 or more professional employees (with little or no responsibility for supervising technicians and/or drafters). For engineering and scientific jobs, compensation is lowest with no consistent supervisory responsibility and highest when supervising 10 or more professional and subprofessional employees. For CADD/designing/drafting jobs, supervising three or four subprofessionals brings the highest compensation, while no consistent supervisory responsibility results in the lowest incomes. For laboratory, land surveying, and technician jobs, supervising five to nine technicians and/or drafters results in the highest compensation; no consistent supervisory responsibility results in the lowest pay.
