    Abstract

The aim of this paper is to show that there is a multimedia divide in the North and South of England and that this divide is rooted in economical history. This article will focus on the Internet development in relation to the British economy. The discussion begins with a definition of Multimedia and an overview of the British economy during the 1980s. The result is that the development of multimedia is closely linked to the economical development and to bridge the gap between North and South of England, the government needs to spend more money in the northern cities.

    Introduction

Multimedia is a very broad term and before starting this discussion, one needs to define it clearly and specify what aspects of it the following paragraphs will focus on.

According to the dictionary multimedia is ‘the presentation of a computer application, usually, interactive, that incorporates media elements such as text graphics, video animation and sound on a computer. Its history, in relation to computers dates back to 1972, when the first video game was launched. Consequently, one can equate multimedia with all interactive aspects of computers, such as internet, games or work packages to name but a few.

    Motivating Employees: You're Kidding, Right?
Often I’m asked to make comments or teach classes on “employee motivation.” The mere combination of these words makes me cringe. We are each unique in our own right and to say that there is a set of principles that explains how to motivate people to higher levels of performance seems too good to be true. What makes us unique? Our family, our upbringing, our education, our religion, our circle of friends, our socio-economic status, (and on, and on. . .) all make us unique (and dare I say, “special?”) And those differences mean that a one-size fits all approach just doesn’t work.Take for example my friend Sam. Sam is an artist and has taught art at a junior high school for 25 years. Several times, Sam has been given the o

Doing Big and Scary Part One
Welcome to the winter months in little ole Britain and 2006 is starting to ebb away. The clocks have gone back, it really is dark in the evenings, and the 2007 is still someway off. It’s just you and those closest to you doing your thing, and there’s definitely a distinct lack of bright lights! Here’s the crux at this time of year as I see it: ‘ You can map out a fight plan or a life plan, but when the action starts it may not go the way you planned, and you’re down to your reflexes – which means your training. That’s where your roadwork shows. If you’ve cheated on that in the dark of the morning – well, you’re going to get found out now under the bright lights.’ Joe Frazier, Boxing. Here then, dear reader, amids

    Sales Training for Mobile Detailers
If you own a mobile detailing business you realize that many people will walk up your truck and ask you about the services that you provide. They can see that you're working on someone else's car and they like the idea of having their car detailed while they are at work.It makes perfect sense because it saves them time and money and you can make a good living doing detailing in parking lots of people's offices. But you must train your employees on each and every truck how to sell. More importantly you must teach them how to listen. Many auto detailers have a little routine that they go through and they use the same sentences on every single customer. It is good to have a canned sales pitch, but it is not smart to use it

Job Scam Targets Internet Users Who Want to Work at Home
I've been working from home since December 2004. My daily quest is finding and applying for real work at home jobs. My latest find is one that everyone needs to be aware of -- but not because it's such a great job, but because it's such a terrible scam. This beauty was listed at a reputable job site. A job site that I think everyone has heard of, but one that I will refrain from mentioning by name. The job was for a Shipping Manager, and the description was very impressive. I applied for it, and before I could even get off the website, I already had an e-mail telling me I had been hired. My duties would consist of receiving packages at my house, warehousing them briefly, and then mailing them overseas. I was told I would b

This discussion will focus primarily on the Internet and its development in relation to the British economy. It will examine both its private use and its use in education and business, thus placing in a larger economical context.

Statistics, which will be analysed in more detail later, have shown that there exists an important rift in the development of multimedia between the North and the South of Britain. In the southern regions and London, private Internet access is much more common in the South than in the North of Britain. There are a number of reasons for this divide and in order to investigate further, it is essential to explain the geographical and economical divide of Britain over the past 25 to 30 years.

A period of time that fuelled the divide was the 1980s, when the collapse of the mining and other industries caused a national state of recession. The recovery from this economical low-point was much faster in the South than in the North, due to Margaret Thatcher’s centralised government and the fact that London and the South of England had easier connections with the rest of Europe and thus experienced facilitated trade and transport possibilities. To this day, the British government has not managed to bridge this economical gap and living standards in the north remain
