In reality, there are millions upon millions of different subjects that you can write upon, and there is no need to believe that you have no skills in interpreting the world around you. You just have to use them.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): First Threshold Magical Spells
The hero enters the first threshold a fish out of water. When he leaves it he is less a fish out of water. In between, he matures on some level. Often he learns new competencies and capabilities (magical spells) and demonstrates them at the exit of the first threshold, to show that he is no longer a fish out of water. In The Godfather (1960), Michael sits in with Sonny and Tom, learns the going on in the Don's office, learns how to use a gun, kill a man and cook from Clemenza.

188 Stage Hero's Journey (Monomyth): Supernatural Aid requirement
The hero requires spiritual guidance, preferably from someone with a track record. He needs a supernatural aid. Someone will have faced the problem before and he will find that person. In Star Wars (1977), Ben knows exactly what to do, has the light sabres under his bed and knows where to go. More than that, he's been thinking about going to this place for a while now to finish off a....

What Is A Romance Novel
A romance novel can be filled with hot and steamy scenes or gentle persuasions that cause readers to fall in love with heroes while the heroine stumbles around, blind as a bat, to all his good qualities. On the other hand, many a novel heroine waits impatiently for the hero to get it through his thick, stubborn head that she loves him.
