The Draft - Will It Come Back After a Nearly 35-Year Hiatus?

Some college students across the nation may have friends, relatives, and/or acquaintances serving in Iraq and Afghanistan as a result of our nation's ongoing War on Terror. A surprising 2004 USA Today poll shows that about 40 percent of all military families support a reestablishment of conscription because they are currently unhappy with their loved ones being redeployed overseas when the overall supply of our nation's troops is overwhelmingly stretched to the international limit.

CUAV Strategy Considerations

Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicles of the future will fight along side their human counterparts for a while, until eventually they will be so superior, that a human would not stand a chance. Of course CUAVs cannot beat enemy fighter pilots until they can modify their software and learn thru artificial intelligence. Indeed, there is also going to need to be some redesigning of these systems and their flight control surfaces. Many UAVs has spoilers to help them steer, but for the CUAVs to be truly agile the CUAV Spoilers need to be re-designed to remain efficient without killing lift or unnecessarily creating drag to maneuver as this is a bad strategy. As things advance efficiency is the most important.

The Divided Command in the Pacific Theatre During WWII w

The war in Iraq and several Pacific War battles have much in common: unnecessary; tragic waste of lives; incompetence at all levels, civilian and military; stay the course, no matter.

Future Fighting Force Needs

The future of warfare is indeed changing and so are the materials that are being used. We need to use more carbon nano-tubes in our war toys. We can use Carbon Nano Tubes with Lead Atoms inside to protect our equipment from Electronic Attack.

Big Guns Of The Boer War

The success of the Boers during the Anglo Boer war was mainly due to the long range guns. The long Tom guns became legendary with the siege of Ladysmith. The Transvaal State Artillery earned the respect of the British gunners by moving these heavy guns over difficult terrain.

Ground Warfare at the Speed of Light

They say that in major tank battles in the current paradigm of the Net-Centric Battlespace that once the battle begins the life expectancy of a tank and its crew is just around 2 minutes. Of course with robotic weaponry there will be no humans in the tank, mobile missile launcher or border perimeter robotic sentry. Still any nation investing is such high-tech war toys knows that they are very expensive and must have systems aboard to prevent their earlier destruction in the very first round of battle or the initial attack.

Unusual Military Battle Tactics Discussed

War is one of the most interesting of all human endeavors. Often we are told at our Online Think Tank that we should not be discussing war technologies, tactics or philosophy. Indeed, I could not disagree more. In fact I believe if more people did then there would be fewer wars. One interesting subject is the many unusual military battle tactics that have been encountered in the last 5-decades of human warfare.

Robotic Wars of the Future - What about Isaac Asimov's Three Laws for Robotics

The future of human wars is changing and it is obvious to see that unmanned vehicles will continue to invade the battle field and eventually our wars will be fought by robots and not humans. We have all heard the saying; All is Fair in Love and War. Indeed it is amazing how many people believe just that and in the heat of battle ones strict adherence to rules will be challenged more often than not. What about Isaac Asimov's famous Robot Rules?

Robots in the Modern Battlespace

Today the United States has many robotic fighting tools in theatre that are used every day, from the predator drones to the anti-IED robotic bomb squad units. There are hand-held UAVs as well. Currently being tested along our borders and in Iraq and Afghanistan are technologies I am not at liberty to discuss at this time - perhaps it will be all public knowledge in the near future. Indeed it does not take a rocket-scientist to figure it out - one only needs to read the defense industry rags from around the Globe.

Educating Yourself on Unmanned Vehicles and the Future Fighting Force

Many arm chair couch potato Generals sit and scream at the TV when it comes to fighting wars. Convenient indeed, sitting their calling the shots and complaining about what is going on at the unit or ground level - how on Earth would they know what is going on, as whatever is on the TV is hardly real.

The Spartans & King Leonidas

The Spartans fighting specialty was as a single impenetrable unit, forward thrusting, one way & notably elite assault unit. They were documented as a fearsome & formidable army, made stronger by their laws for which forbids them to neither retreat nor surrender. Suicidal tendency is prevalent within such a school of thought.

German Memory - Dresden Bombing & the World's Reaction

Overall, Anglo-American bombing of German cities claimed between 305,000 and 600,000 civilian lives. But the devastation in Dresden made a great impact on neutral countries at that time. Howard Cowan, an Associated Press war correspondent, subsequently filed a story saying that the Allies had resorted to terror bombing. Before the bombing, Dresden was regarded as a beautiful city and a cultural center, and was sometimes known as Elbflorenz, or Florence on the Elbe. Its notable architecture included the Zwinger Palace, the Dresden State Opera House, and the Dresden Frauenkirche, its historic cathedral.

German Memories in Asia - German Colonies in Asia and the Pacific

The European colonial era Jaffna reminded one of how the European powers established their colonial empires in Asia, Africa and Americas with a long and hazardous past. Germany also colonised many of the Asian and African countries with other Europian nations after the development of imperialism and the awareness of having colonies around the world. The colonialist thinking was that colonies were ideal to support the economy in the motherland. So, densely populated China came into view as a potential market. Thinkers like Max Weber demanded an active colonial policy from the German government. In particular the opening of China was made a question of life or death, because it was thought to be the most important non-European market in the world.

Torture Is Not Justified

In order to make a nation powerful, is it justified to torture the minorities or the poor civilians of other nations? Why are those people being punished, who have nothing to do with the cold war going on between nations?
